Forsite – Tech Updates (3rd Quarter)

It’s been another busy quarter for Forsite’s development team. As we shared in the last update, we’ve had our foot on the accelerator for most of the year and released several key new features that have expanded the Forsite toolbox and improved its usability for our ever-growing user base.

Of course, just like a car, you sometimes need to take it in for a service and tune-up to ensure everything keeps running smoothly. This has been the team’s focus for the last quarter – listening to your feedback and doing some robust testing to ensure stability and consistent delivery of services.

One of the most common pieces of feedback we receive is that the app doesn’t always identify when contractors have arrived at a site. Often, the simplest remedy for this is to ensure that you always have the latest updates to the app and have permissions turned on. There have been some reports of regressions – that is, problems we thought were fixed that have popped up again. We don’t always know why these happen, so we’re taking the time to investigate these instances thoroughly and find lasting solutions.

As we continue testing and improving these processes, here are some new features coming online that you should know about….

If ever you’re faced with an emergency situation on one of your sites – be it a fire, earthquake or a police presence – Forsite now offers an Evacuation Alert function.

To find this, look for the bright red exclamation mark on the Forsite portal. To activate, simply click on it, identify the affected site, type a message, and it will send to all users who are on that site using a push notification. Users then click ok on the popup to advise they have received the message and are evacuating the site.

All details are logged so you can keep track of the reason for the alert, where and at what time it was sent, and who has seen it. As on-site users have to complete an action in response to the alert, it means there is no confusion over who is on site.

Currently, this function is live on the portal, but we are doing some further testing and tweaking in the coming months with customers, so we can have it live and fully functioning on the app by end of the quarter.

This is one of those services that we hope that you’ll never have to use, but it’s a necessity you can’t be without. It’s an important new feature that will enhance safety, so keep your app updated to ensure you won’t miss any alerts.

Database Hierarchy restructure - This one is a bit complicated, but the benefit of restructuring hierarchy in the Forsite database means we can now allow for multiple site-admins, and multiple levels of users for companies using Forsite.

Previously, the app only allowed for ‘one-to-one’ relationships, ie. between a sub-contractor and the one company they worked for. This fix will allow for those sub-contractors who work for multiple companies to have a ‘one-to-many’ relationship through the Forsite app. Similarly, if a Facility Management company has multiple property managers overseeing different sites, they will be able to belong to the same company structure – a ‘many-to-one’ relationship.

It is a complex fix to a simple problem, but the result will expand the usability of the Forsite portal as it evolves to meet the changing needs of our customers – and that’s a good thing!

It’s worth reiterating that Forsite recognises and respects the privacy rights of every user. As we develop the full functionality for contractors working with multiple service providers, the service provider shall only see the data relating to that contractor that relates to their work for that service provider. Ensuring the privacy and rights of every use is and shall continue to be of paramount importance to Forsite.
